Our Services

What We Offer

We offer a full financial planning service including strategic advice complemented with ongoing service which includes regular reviews. We provide ‘current, up-to-date technical and strategic advice’ that is supported by ongoing education, thorough qualitative and quantitative research of investments and products and is backed by dedicated administration staff.

Strategic Advice

This is the most important part of our job and involves working with our clients to help them achieve the lifestyle they want.  The outcome will vary from client to client subject to their circumstances.  In developing strategic advice we take into account things such as:  your income, your living expenses, your assets and your liabilities, your age and family situation, your risk profile and your tax position and your goals and objectives.

We have the ability to help you with:

  • Wealth Accumulation and Personal Protection
  • Superannuation and Retirement
  • Setting up and running your own Self-Managed Superannuation Fund
  • Salary Packaging
  • Redundancy
  •  Investment Advice and Product Selection including direct shares, term deposits, exchange traded funds and managed funds
  • Insurance Advice and Product Selection

As financial planners, we do not believe we can predict market movements and don't try to. We do know that markets over time can give good returns and clients investments are based on this. Where we can (and do) add value is exposing clients to strategies and concepts that they may not have been aware of - potentially saving them money, which in some cases can be a significant amount.

Ever-changing regulation makes it difficult for the busy client to keep a pace with changes and, particularly for retirees and those who run their own Self-Managed Super Funds, it can be a complex area.

The market uncertainty, complex legislation, the need to have an adequate income in retirement and a growing awareness of the need for education in financial matters have led clients to value a high level of ongoing service.

We provide ongoing, quality advice that helps our clients to achieve their financial objectives.

Our Fees

At Garvan Northbridge our fees are based on the advice we provide. Our fees can be categorised into 2 broad areas: Initial Advice Fees and Ongoing Advice Fees. The fees you pay for both Initial and Ongoing Advice will be determined by our assessment of the relative complexity of your situation.

  • Initial Advice Fee
This is the fee for the work connected with the preparation of our strategic recommendations, including documenting the financial advice in a financial plan (Statement of Advice). As every client is different, we take the time necessary to listen to what you want to achieve. We also ensure you fully understand our advice and the benefits you will achieve by putting the recommendations in place. Our aim is to save you money above and beyond the fees that we charge.
  • Ongoing Advice Fee
Ongoing service is a requisite to keep your plan on track. Because change is inevitable – both to legislation and to your situation – your financial plan needs to be able to adapt to these changes. While there are numerous features of our ongoing service, a full and thorough strategic annual review of your personal and financial situation is essential as this ensures that your plan keeps delivering what it was set out to do. /font>

If our advice includes the use of any product (eg. investment, insurance, debt, etc.) the Initial Advice Fee also includes the implementation of such a product. The ongoing Advice Fee includes the review of such a product. In the situation where we would normally receive an initial or ongoing commission/brokerage from the product issuer for recommending their product, the commission or brokerage will be fully rebated to you which will result in more of your funds being invested, lower product fees or a reduced premium.

Please ask us for a current fee schedule and let us know if you need further explanation.

Benefits we may receive
Sometimes in the process of providing advice, we may receive benefits from product providers.  We may attend conferences subsidised in whole or part by product providers.  Eligibility to attend may be based on business revenue targets as well as achieving our internal quality standards and accreditations.  Garvan Financial Planning may also receive sponsorship payments from product providers to subsidise our own conferences and professional development events.

Business Equity Valuation – in the event of our death or permanent disablement, or if we were to leave the financial planning industry, Garvan Financial Planning provides a buyer of last resort option called BEV.  This helps manage the transition of ownership to ensure you continue to receive advice.

Remuneration Information
Prior to providing personal advice, we will advise you of the cost involved in receiving the initial advice.  All other fees (investment and administration where applicable) will be provided in the Statement of Advice and Product Disclosure Statements.

If you need further explanation please ask us.
